   Product Overview

     The Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is a full-field skin resurfacing solution, capable of a wide variety of treatment options. From shallow a MicroLaserPeel® (up to 50µm of ablation) to deep resurfacing (up to 200µm of ablation per pass, with or without variable depth coagulation), the Contour TRL gives the physician exquisite control over surgical outcomes.

    What makes the Sciton resurfacing laser truly unique among other resurfacing lasers is TRL technology, which provides independent control over the depth of ablation and coagulation with micron precision. TRL technology makes it easy to ablate as shallow or deep as you like, with or without coagulation. Competitive lasers, like CO2, have a fixed ratio of coagulation to ablation, and there is no way to separate the two. With CO2, coagulation always accompanies ablation, which often leads to suboptimal treatments and undesired side effects like hypopigmentation, sustained erythema, and prolonged recovery times.

     Sciton’s TRL technology is different. Because the Contour TRL decouples ablation and coagulation and allows for precise application of each, practitioners can dial in the exact tissue effect needed for each patient’s pathology, desired outcome, and tolerance for downtime.

LAPG and Non-Sequential Scanning

    The SteriMed Junior system is designed for smaller facilities due to its reduced size and capacity. It's designed to be installed in clinics, bloodbanks, hospitals, and other medical facilities that produce and need to dispose of infectious medical waste.


Technical characteristics:
    SteriMed-Junior units simultaneously shred and disinfect regulated medical waste, reducing its volume up to 90%, and rendering it harmless for disposal as ordinary waste. The SteriMed-Junior can process a large variety of medical waste; chemically treating up to 4 gal. (15 liters). Full SteriMed-Junior working cycle takes approximately 17 minutes on average to complete.


ProLipo PLUS™


       ProLipo PLUS is a minimally invasive, ultra high-powered laser system for performing laser-assisted lipolysis. It melts unwanted fat and coagulates tissue, resulting in a tighter, slimmer body.

Clinical Applications
    ProLipo PLUS is FDA cleared for laser-assisted lipolysis. It is often times used for treatment in patients that require finessed sculpting in difficult areas such as medial thighs, upper abdomen, periumbilical, submental area, and upper arms. These places have traditionally been troublesome for physicians and traditional liposuction, now they can be expertly addressed.     With 40 watts of power at 1064 nm and 40 watts at 1319 nm, ProLipo PLUS effectively liquefies unwanted fat and coagulates tissue resulting in a tighter, slimmer body.

    Sciton’s ProLipo PLUS combines 1064 nm and 1319 nm wavelengths in one laser for optimal body sculpting results. The 1064 nm wavelength is chosen for constructing the fat channels and preparing the fat for lipolysis by breaking up the more vascular superficial fat. It is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin for better hemostasis and also generates thermal heating. The fat cell is ruptured and tumefaction takes place. It is an efficient wavelength for lipolysis.
    The 1319 nm wavelength is used for its high absorption in water and its lower scattering in fat, so the majority of its thermal energy can be confined to the area just beyond the tip of the fiber. It is used to preferentially damage collagen in fibrous septae. This is the precursor to tissue retraction and observable improvement in skin laxity.

    ProFractional is Sciton’s solution for achieving excellent resurfacing results with minimal downtime. Unlike full field resurfacing which removes the entire surface area of a treatment site, ProFractional ablates narrow-diameter channels into the skin, covering a fraction of the total treatment area. This action initiates the body’s wound healing response which stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, while leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing. The benefits of ProFractional include increased patient comfort, shorter healing times, and tunable results that can range from subtle to dramatic.

ProFractional utilizes a 250 µm spot size and offers a range of treatment densities from 1.5% to 30% coverage. ProFractional-XC utilizes a 430 µm spot size and predefined treatment densities for greater speed. ProFractional-XC also provides the ability to add depth-selectable tissue coagulation for enhanced collagen remodeling.

Clinical Applications
ProFractional creates clean, micro-ablated channels in the skin, which activate fibroblast production and rejuvenate the collagen matrix. The result is the formation of new collagen and elastin, which combine to bring increased turgor and thickness to the skin. Leaving surrounding tissue intact helps promote rapid healing due to presence of stem cells and melanocytes in the papillary dermis.

Science + Technology

Better ablation through more efficient water absorption
     ProFractional utilizes an erbium:YAG laser, which was chosen due to its high ablation efficiency. Erbium has a much higher absorption in the target chromophore water than CO2 (see graph below) which gives erbium the ability to vaporize tissue with very little thermal conduction. By contrast, due to their comparatively low absorption by water, CO2 lasers have lower ablation efficiency and therefore, unavoidably, conduct a significant amount of heat into the tissue.



Tunable Resurfacing Laser (TRL) technology
Erbium’s high water absorption is only part of the story. What truly sets ProFractional apart is TRL technology, which gives the user the ability to adjust the depth of ablation and coagulation independently. By modulating the laser’s energy to deliver supra-ablative pulses, ProFractional is able to vaporize any depth of tissue from 25 to 1500 µm per pass with extreme precision. If coagulation is desired,
ProFractional-XC delivers a train of sub-ablative laser pulses that heat the tissue to a selectable depth without vaporizing it.

    ProFractional’s TRL technology can ablate from 25 µm to 1500 µm with exacting precision.

Pro-V Overview
     Pro-V treatment with the Sciton JOULE™ laser is a safe, fast and effective solution for treating venous insufficiency and is often performed on an outpatient basis. Under local anesthesia, a fiber is inserted in the vein and the heat generated by the absorption of laser energy closes the incompetent vein. The 1319 nm wavelength targets water in the blood, which captures heat in the vein and, since treatment temperatures are lower and injury to surrounding tissue is minimized, patient satisfaction is significantly higher compared to other hotter modalities

Clinical Applications
    Varicose veins, along with edema, skin changes, dermatitis and venous ulcers, are typically caused by incompetent valves in the greater saphenous vein (GSV). Healthy valves in the veins stop the backflow of blood between heartbeats. When these valves are damaged, the blood leaks and pools in the legs and feet. This venous insufficiency puts significant pressure on the veins, causing them to bulge into varicose veins or resulting in the other symptoms associated with venous reflux disease.

    The Pro-V 1319 nm Nd:YAG laser is ideal for endovenous ablation of the saphenous vein for GSV insufficiency.

Science + Technology  

   The Sciton ProV 1319 nm laser provides effective endovenous laser ablation of abnormal refluxing truncal veins. Absorption at 1319 nm occurs in the hydrated endothelial cells of the vein wall. 1319 nm is highly absorbed in water which enables a comfortable treatment for the patient, and causes minimal post-op swelling and bruising.

     The 600-micron laser fiber is inserted into the incompetent vein through a catheter up into the sapheno femoral junction. Ultrasound is used to confirm the correct location of the fiber tip. With ultrasound assistance, tumescent fluid is delivered along the exterior of the saphenous vein.
    As the fiber is pulled back, the heat generated by the laser ablates and collapses the vein wall, resulting in complete vessel occlusion. The blood is automatically re-routed through healthier veins, and the restoration of normal circulation resolves the bulging varicose veins and other symptoms of venous insufficiency. The ablated vein is eventually absorbed by the body.

ThermaScan Overview

     Pulsed energy at a 1319 nm wavelength allows controlled heating of sub-epidermal layers of the skin. This is ideal for non-invasive wrinkle and acne scar treatment through collagen remodeling or for treating acne by heating sebaceous glands thereby minimizing oil production. The pulse duration and high scattering coefficient limit the heated region to a uniform thin layer below the epidermal-dermal boundary.
